Spring 2 Week 5

This week we have been developing our estimating skills in Maths. This is a very clever skill where we have to guess the amount without counting the objects. We also discussed the different stages of human life, we start as a baby and then all the stages we grow through to become an adult and then an elderly person. We really enjoyed finding out about all the different ages.
In Phonics we have been focusing on recognising our Phase 3 sounds and we will be becoming digraph detectives where we have to find the sounds in stories, texts and signs.
We really enjoyed our trip to the Theatre to see Aladdin and The Magic Lamp. We had four mini buses to bring us to the Souq Waqif Theatre. We walked through to the Souq which was very exciting to see all the jewels in the shop windows. We had really comfy seats and we got to sit right down at the front. The music was really lively and the genie was very funny.

Spring 2 Week 4

This week we continued with our theme of the Little Red hen, discussing further how to be a kind friend. We also investigated different objects using the scales to decide which was heavy and light. We used the tablets to to create a re-tell story of the Little Red Hen. We are developing our technology skills by using digital cameras and tablets to take photos and videos.

We are really working on writing independently, using our phonic skills to write our own news. We are particularly focusing on the sounds ear, ai, oi, ow, oa as these are a little bit tricky to recognise especially in the middle of words.

We are really looking forward to our trip next week to the theatre to see Aladdin and the Magic Lamp.

Hope you all have a restful and enjoyable weekend.

Spring 2 Week 3

This week we read the story of The Little Red Hen and we found it very sad that the Hen's friends wouldn't help her. We discussed who we could ask for help if we needed it and how we can help our friends in school. Some of the children didn't like this story because the friends weren't helpful. We discussed how to be a kind friend on the playground, how to include everyone and how we are all friends in this school.

As this story is about making bread, we made our own and brought it home to bake it. We really enjoyed the bread making process and seeing how the ingredients changed to make the dough. We hope you liked it!

We have been working hard on developing our independent phonic skills to help with our writing. We are thinking of the sounds in words and writing them ourselves. We have also begun practicing the correct letter formation in cursive for a, c, o, d, g, q. Next week we are focusing on e, f, s.

Hope you all have a wonderful, restful weekend and enjoy the return of the sunshine!
